Planche Push-up - Week 16

Where are we at?

At the start of this blog series I had very different expectations of what the content was going to be like... Looking back it's more a view into my shoulder issues and the mounting pressure at work rather than any meaningful progress towards the planche push-up.

Even simply looking at the effort going in to the workouts it's clear that it's on a back burner. Since the last post we were at a company offsite for 1 week and this week we skipped the office as most of the team got hit with a cold or something similar.

Looking ahead it's clear that work will be very busy as we're working towards launch. Loads of testing, bug fixes, and other things that will take up a lot of time.

My shoulder is also still a bit of a problem. This week I had another session with the physio and he was also at wits end. Per his suggestion I'm going to get a scan done to see if there's anything else going on. Even if it turns out that there's nothing wrong that needs to be treated that'll still give us something to work with.

Short-term plan

Having said all that I'm definitely not going to give up on the planche push-up, it'll just be pushed back even further.

I'm going to start by picking up strength training again. I'll take a shorter version of my shoulder program to use as a warm-up and then start doing a strength program I did a few years back. While I still like the stronglift 5x5 program I think it's good to try something else that's a little less extreme.

In the first few weeks I'll be holding off on the planche exercises so I can focus on getting used to heavier strength training. I'll get back to the planche exercises when I feel more comfortable with my shoulder and work is less busy.

So what's next?

I was debating whether to continue this blog series but have it more as a journal of my shoulder issues (which is what is was the past few months anyway...) or to just take a break until I get started again with the planche push-up. Given the current outlook I decided to stop this particular series. If I feel the need to post an update on my shoulder/training/work I'll just to that as it's own standalone post or a different series.

It's been an interesting journey, albeit not at all what I expected. Hopefully when I reboot the series I'll actually be able to make some progress from week to week.
